Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find Korean's compliance-gaining strategies and to investigate the correlations between compliance-gaining strategies employed in persuading someone and compliance-gaining stategies used in being persuaded by someone. This research has discussed whether or not American's compliance-gaining strategies can be applied to Koreans and has addressed what problems previous compliance-gaining studies conducted in Korea have. In order to find Korean's compliance-gaining strategies, the inductive method was used. Subjects recalled compliance-gaining situations recently experienced and wrote compliance-gaining strategies employed in the situations. The subjects' responses were content-analyzied. Nine compliance-strategies were found. Except for explanation strategy, there were no correlations in compliance strategies between persuasive situations and persuaded situations. Finally, this research discussed the implications on Korean's compliance-gaining strategies based on the results.
