Abstract
[Purpose] This study aims to analyze the current operation of vocational education hub schools operated within high school special classes for students with disabilities, and to explore strategies to enhance the quality of career and vocational education based on the perceptions and experiences of stakeholders involved. [Method] The study analyzed the 2025 operational plans of 5 vocational education hub schools for students with disabilities, which are operated to support career and vocational education in special classes. In addition, qualitative analysis was conducted on data collected through in-depth interviews—both focus group interviews (FGI) and individual interviews—with 8 stakeholders. [Results] Among the career and vocational education programs offered by the integrated vocational education hub schools for students with disabilities, service-related fields were the most prevalent, followed by manufacturing and IT/digital sectors. Through constant comparative analysis of the in-depth interview data, 5 main themes and 13 subthemes were identified: : ⑴ the evolving role and operation of the hub schools; ⑵ strengths of the programs; ⑶ areas for improvement; ⑷ future directions for program operation; and ⑸suggestions for improving career and vocational education for students with disabilities. [Conclusion] Based on the research findings, key discussion points for strengthening career and vocational education in special classes were proposed, along with suggestions for future research.
