초록

The present study aims to investigate the relative contributions of father involvement and social competence to aggressive behavior of children with ADHD. Participants included 111 mothers of a third- to sixth-grade child with ADHD (boys 99; girls 12), who lived in Busan or Kyung Nam in Korea. We used the Structural Equation Modeling analysis in order to test a mediational relationship among father involvement, child’s social competence, and aggression. Our findings showed that father involvement improved the social competence of children with ADHD and this, in turn, decreased their aggressive behaviors. Father involvement did not influence child aggression directly but influenced indirectly via social competence.

Abstract

Participants included 111 mothers of a third- to sixth-grade child with ADHD (boys 99; girls 12), who lived in Busan or Kyung Nam in Korea. We used the Structural Equation Modeling analysis in order to test a mediational relationship among father involvement, child’s social competence, and aggression. Our findings showed that father involvement improved the social competence of children with ADHD and this, in turn, decreased their aggressive behaviors. Father involvement did not influence child aggression directly but influenced indirectly via social competence.
