Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discover the language attitudes of native Korean speakers toward non-native foreign accented Korea language speakers using a survey method based on the Measure of Prejudice Against Accented English(Ura, 2015). For this research, 161 participants answered 32 questions using the six-point Likert Scale. The results show that native Korean speakers generally have negative attitudes toward non-native foreign accented Korean speakers. In addition, some of the questions resulted in conflicting results based on participants job, gender and age. Most notably, increasingly negative attitudes were found among native Korean speakers over the age of 50.
