Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of empathy and self-acceptance on job-seeking stress among university students, and to establish a theoretical foundation for psychological interventions by analyzing the mediating effect of self-acceptance in the relationship between these variables using structural equation modeling (SEM). Major statistical methods employed included correlation analysis, one-way ANOVA, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and SEM. The results revealed the following: First, empathy and self-acceptance were significantly positively correlated, while both empathy and self-acceptance were significantly negatively correlated with job-seeking stress. Second, in the analysis of differences according to demographic characteristics, no significant gender differences were found, but there were significant differences in self-acceptance and job-seeking stress by academic year. Third, the results of the SEM analysis showed that empathy had a positive effect on self-acceptance, and self-acceptance negatively predicted job-seeking stress. Interestingly, while empathy had a direct positive effect on job-seeking stress, this effect was offset when mediated by self-acceptance, demonstrating a suppressing mediation effect. This study suggests the necessity of integrating emotional regulation interventions that include not only the enhancement of empathy but also training in self-acceptance when addressing job-seeking stress among university students. These findings offer meaningful implications for developing future counseling and educational programs.
