본 논문은 요한계시록의 저자가 기도의 주제를 위해 사용하는 구약과 유대배경을 분석하고 기도가 계시록의 구조와 핵심 주제와 어떤 관련성이 있는지 분석한다. 이 목적을 위해 구약의 제의와 사해 문헌의 기도를 연구하고 계시록에 묘사된 기도 장면(5:8; 8:3-5)과 기도 내용(6:9-11; 22:17, 20)에 적용한다. 본 연구는 상호 본문적-내본문적 접근으로 다음과 같은 결론에 이른다. 첫째, 침묵은 구약의 제사장들과 사해 문헌의 천사-제사장들이 주도하는 제의 시간에 나타나는 현상이다. 계시록 8:1에서 하늘에 흐르는 침묵은 이어지는 3-5절이 하늘 성전에서 천사가 제사장으로서 하나님 앞에 성도들의 기도(6:10)를 올리는 예배 장면임을 의미한다. 둘째, 계시록 8:3-5에 등장하는 두 제단(3, 5절)은 각각 분향 제단과 희생 제단(또는 번제단)을 가리킨다. 8:5a은 레위기 16:12a에 근거하며, 5a절에서 천사-제사장이 불을 향로에 담는 장면은 분향 제단이 아니라 희생 제단에서 불을 향로에 채우는 모습에 가깝다. 셋째, 계시록의 기도 장면(5:8; 8:3-5)과 기도 내용(6:10; 22:17, 20)의 관계는 신자들의 기도가 하늘 성전의 하나님 앞에 확실히 올려졌음을 확인함으로써(5:8; 8:1, 3-5) 땅에서 예수 그리스도의 증인으로 살아가는 성도들이 인내(6:9-10)로 예수의 재림(22:17, 20)을 소망하도록 격려한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the theological significance of prayer in the book of Revelation through an intertextual-intratextual analysis. It delves into the offering of incense and the motif of silence in the Old Testament, as well as the heavenly liturgy in the Dead Sea Scrolls, to provide a Jewish backdrop for understanding the motif of prayer in Revelation (5:8; 6:9-11; 8:3-5; 22:17, 20). Silence was a significant aspect of the priestly rituals in the Old Testament, and it was also observed by the angelic priests in the Dead Sea Scrolls during their heavenly liturgy. The mention of silence in heaven (Rev 8:1) suggests that verses 3-5 depict the heavenly liturgy. Furthermore, the altar in 8:3-5 merges the altar of incense (v. 3) and the altar of burnt offering (v. 5), and v. 5a alludes to that of Lev 16:12a. The scenes (5:8; 8:3-4) and contents (6:10; 22:17, 20) of prayer in Revelation are designed to motivate the followers of the Lamb to wait and pray for the Parousia (22:17, 20), believing that their prayers have been raised before God in the heavenly temple.
