Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the scenes of heavenly worship in the book of Revelation (e.g., chaps 4-5; 7:9-12; 8:2-4; 11:15-19; 14:2-5; 15:2-4; 19:1-8) and to investigate their theological implications. The heav- enly worship scenes play a powerful role in understanding the literary struc- ture of Revelation and its theological purpose which is intended to challenge the faithful to worship God and the Lamb in a hostile world. For this study it is important to know the relationship between the heavenly worshipers and the earthly community in the Dead Sea Scrolls because it helps us understand the relationship between the angelic worshipers in the heavenly temple and the believers on earth. Just as the Qumran community believed that they could participate in the worship of the heavenly and angelic priests through their hymns, prayers, and purification, so in Revelation the believers are also encouraged to experience the heavenly worship by learning the heavenly worship (e.g., the new song [5:9]) and by faithfully walking in the way of the Lamb.
