무용예술의 ‘상상(想像)공간’에 관한 이론적 고찰

예술은 인간의 감정과 사상을 표현하는 내적 필연성에 의한 정신적인 소산물이다. 지금 예술은 꿈꾸는 모든 것들이 새로워지려 노력한다. 이러한 노력은 인간의 ‘상상’에 의해 더욱 큰 발전을 이루고 있으며, 상상적인 공간으로서의 ‘상상’에 대한 표현의 욕구는 보편적인 현대인들과 예술가들의 세계 속에 자리 잡고 있다. ‘상상’이란 환상이나 공상과 같이 단순한 일시적인 기분과는 달리 기억이나 관념을 가지고 새로운 것을 만드는 능력이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 상상은 경험 속에서 이미 형성된 것을 새롭게 조직하고 결합시키는 과정으로 현실을 기초로 하여 새로운 형상을 창조하는 심리적인 활동이라고 할 수 있다. 이에 무용예술가는 자신의 삶으로부터의 자신만의 ‘상상공간’을 고유한 언어로 도출하여 창조적인 표현 방식으로 형상화하여야 한다. 분명한 것은 무용예술의 상상적 차원에서 이루어지는 다양한 상상들이 사회적 관계에 영향을 받거나 사회적 위계화를 목적으로 만들어진다는 것이다. 이렇게 우리는 상상을 통하여 인간의 내면세계를 바라봄으로서 이를 독자적인 이미지로 구축하고 예술적으로 표현하고자 한다. 그것은 작품을 통해서 감상자에게 작가의 상상을 공유시키고 그 속에서 감상자만의 또 다른 상상을 유도하여 자아와 삶의 의미를 찾을 수 있도록 유도하는데 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Art is a mental product of human needs for display of emotion and thought. In art, there has been a ceaseless effort to renew what people dream of, and that effort has been accelerated by 'human imagination.' Universally, modern people and artists desire to display their imagination and imaginary space. 'Imagination' is differentiated from simple, temporary mood such as fantasy or fancy. That refers to an ability to make something new based on one's own memory or idea. And that denotes a process to arrange and combine what's created based on experience, and that is a psychological activity to create a new image on the basis of reality. Dance artists should visualize their unique imaginary space in a creative manner by using their own unique language. The purpose of this study was to represent an illogical, inner imaginary world through dance art in a bid to unveil human mystery and sentiment, which were hidden by reason. And it's additionally meant to present a vision for an unknown world. Theories of imagination related to inner mental action were reviewed to lay the theoretical foundation for the study, and an imaginary space was discussed as the foundation for the creation of dance art. Finally, what factors affected the imagination of dance art was explored.
