골프선수의 ‘입스(Yips)’와 현상학적 신체도식 개념

본 연구의 목적은 골프선수의 ‘입스(Yips)’ 문제를 메를로-퐁티가 정초한 현상학적 신체도식에 입각해 해명하는 데 있다. 현재까지 ‘입스’ 연구는 스포츠과학의 대립적 이원론인 순수 생리와 순수 심리의 관점에서 수행되었다. 이를 극복하기 위하여 본 연구는 순수 생리와 순수 심리를 통합하는 메를로-퐁티의 신체도식에 입각하여 ‘입스’ 문제를 고찰했다. 이것에 근거하여 본 연구는 ‘입스’의 관건인 운동 숙련자의 전-의식적 운동의 붕괴를 해명했으며, 이를 통해 ‘입스’문제는 기형적으로 변화한 신체도식을 자신의 신체에 침전시키는 데 있다는 것을 제시하고자 한다. 또한 O’Brien(2019)이 ‘입스’ 극복의 핵심이라고 강조하는 “안전한 공간(safe space)”을 신체도식의 공간성 개념을 통해 고찰했다. 그 결과 신체도식에 문제가 발생한 ‘입스’ 경험자들은 자신을 “안전한 공간”에, 즉 실존적 인간의 근원적인 거주 공간인 상황에 자신을 투사하지 못한다는 것을 발견했다. 본 연구의 의의는 신체도식에 입각하여 ‘입스’에 관한 새로운 관점을 열고 이를 해명한 데서 찾을 수 있다. 물론 체육학계에는 이미 ‘입스’와 신체도식을 주제화했던 연구들이 있지만, 그 연구들은 ‘입스’와 신체도식을 분리해서 탐구했다. 반면에 본 연구에서 우리가 시도하는 바는 ‘입스’와 신체도식 사이의 연관성을 제시하는 것이며, 이를 통해 ‘입스’를 새로운 관점에서 보는 토대를 마련하는 것이다. 본 연구의 결과는 ‘입스’ 해결을 위한 ‘신체도식 재활운동프로그램’의 방향 및 근거가 될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the “Yips” problem of golf players in respect to Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological concept of ‘bodyschema’. Currently, the “Yips” studies in sports science have been executed with the dualistic confrontation between pure physiology and pure psychology. In order to overcome this, this study considers the “Yips” problem based on Merleau-Ponty’s bodyschema that integrates pure physiology and pure psychology. Based on this, we have elucidated the collapse of the pre-conscious movement of the skilled player, which is considered to be the key to the problem of “Yips” and through this, we have discovered that the “Yips” problem lies in depositing a deformedly changed bodyschema into one's body. In addition, the “safe space” emphasized by O’Brien (2019) in overcoming “Yips” was considered through Merleau-Ponty’s concept of spatiality. As a result, we have found that “Yippers” who have problems with their bodyschema cannot project themselves into “safe space” namely, into a situation that is the original living space of an existential human being. The significance of this study can be found in the newly elucidated ‘Yips’ based on the bodyschema. Of course, in the sports science field, there has been studies that have dealt with “Yips” and bodyschema, but in these studies, "Yips” and ‘bodyschem' are treatead separately. In contrast these studies we have attempted to suggest a connection between “Yips” and bodyschema, and through this, provide a new perspective on “Yips”. The results of this study could indicate the direction and basis for the “body schematic rehabilitation exercise program” to solve the “Yips”.
