Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential for subversive power in the writing of ‘physical education and sport’ through Maurice Blanchot’s ‘L’Écriture du désastre’. His writing challenges conventional ways of thinking and expressing through its free form and fragmented structure. He argues that writing is not just a tool for conveying information, but can be a means of generating new perspectives and understandings, always open to interpretation and creation, with no fixed meaning or structure. In other words, writing about physical education and sport can make unexpected connections or provide new insights, and it’s the openness of writing that gives readers the opportunity to look at a familiar topic in a different way. This allows them to be explored in new and creative ways. First, it breaks away from the traditional writing form and structure of physical education, emphasizes the subject’s unique expression, and seeks a deeper understanding of the creation of meaning in writing. Second, sport events are described in a moment-to-moment, unpredictable and irregular manner, which can effectively capture and address the dynamic and complex nature of events. In conclusion, Maurice Blanchot’s ‘L’Écriture du désastre’ is a deep examination of the absence of meaning structure and order, uncertainty, and unpredictability, and this study examines whether it is also possible to write about physical education and sport. In the end, he believes that language can never fully express the reality we are given, and he asks the question: Isn’t writing the result of a constant effort to push the limits of language, as language is always imperfect?
