영시와 시 쓰기 활동을 활용한 교양 수업 사례 연구

본 연구에서는 영시 문학을 활용한 수업 사례들을 분석하고 시 문학을 활용하여 학생들의 행위 주체성을 위한 기본 역량을 키울 수 있는 방안을 탐색해 보고자 한다. 긴 시간 동안 텍스트에 집중하지 못하고 문해력이 취약한 현대 대학생들에게 시는 가장 다가가기 쉽고 최대의 효과를 가져올 수 있는 텍스트로 각광받고 있다. 이전에 시는 함축적인 의미와 난해한 해석으로 한때 문학 수업에서 외면받거나 힘든 과정을 겪었지만, 다양한 견해를 추구하는 요즘 학생들에게는 재미있고 탐구할 만한 대상이 된 것이다. 그러므로 본고는 먼저 기존에 진행해왔던 문학 활용 연구에 대해 정리하고 시 활용 사례에 대해 자세한 분석을 전달하고자 한다. 이전의 시 문학 활용은 시 텍스트를 제시하고 분석을 통해 학생들의 의견을 듣고 사고하는 시간을 가져보는 데 의의가 있었다. 시의 활용은 짧은 시간에 큰 집중력과 학습 성과를 이루어낼 수 있다는 장점이 있었는데, 이러한 활용과 관련된 분석 사례와 결과를 간략히 정리할 것이다. 더불어 영시 활용 및 분석을 넘어 시 쓰기 활동을 통해 학생들의 행위 주체성을 도모한 사례도 조명하고자 한다. 시 쓰기 활동은 문학적 치료 외에도 기존 교양 수업에서 진행되어온 시 문학 감상의 한계를 극복할 수 있게 한다. 필자는 영시 쓰기를 포함한 전반적인 텍스트 쓰기가 학생들의 주체적인 이해와 능동적인 참여에 도움이 될 수 있으며 문학 감상이 내면적으로 이루어지게 하는 데 유용하게 쓰일 수 있음을 분석을 통해 입증하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the cases utilizing English poetry literature and explores how poetry literature can be used to build foundation skills for student agency. Poetry is gaining attention as the most accessible and effective text for today’s college students who cannot focus on text for long periods of time and have weak literacy skills. While poetry was once shunned or struggled with in literature classes due to its implied meanings and esoteric interpretations, it has become an interesting and worth exploring topic for today's students who seek diverse perspectives. Therefore, the paper will first organize the existing literature utilization research and provide a recent analysis of the cases of English poetry literature utilization. The previous use of poetry literature had focused on presenting poetry texts and analyzing them to get students' opinions and thoughts. The use of poetry had the advantage of being able to achieve great concentration and learning outcomes in a short period of time so the analysis cases and results related to its utilization will be briefly summarized. In addition, beyond the use and analysis of poetry, this study will also highlight cases where English poetry writing activities promoted students' agency. Besides literary therapy, poetry writing activities can help overcome the limitations of poetry appreciation in traditional liberal arts classes. I intend to prove through analysis that overall poetry writing, including English poetry writing, is beneficial to students' independent understanding and active participation and can be useful for internalizing literary appreciation.
