실리사회주의와 경제적 합리성－변창률의 농촌소설과 「영근 이삭」 읽기－

2000년대 이후 북한소설의 괄목할 만한 변화는 김정일 체제와 함께 촉발되었다. 이 글은 변창률의 소설을 대상으로 김정일 체제가 표방한 ‘실리사회주의’와 함께 일어난 사회적 변화를 논의하였다. ‘징후적 독법’이라는 관점에서 보면, 최근 등장한 변창률의 농촌소설은 주목해볼 가치가 있다. 그의 소설에는 협동농장의 초급일꾼 ‘분조장’을 중심으로 북한 경제정책 선회에 따른 사회 변화상을 함축하는 일상적인 일화들이 많이 등장한다. ‘7.1 신경제관리조치’로 요약되는 북한의 사회발전전략은 정체된 계획경제의 한계를 타파하기 위해 마련된 개혁적 유인책이다. 이 조치는 관행화된 정실주의나 비효율적인 관료주의를 비판하고 개인들의 잉여 이익을 보장함으로써 경제적 합리성에 기초한 주체들의 탄생을 가능하게 만들었다. 변창률의 소설에서 ‘분조장’은 농촌경제를 쇄신하는 주역이다. 이들은 나태와 현실 안주, 관료주의와 패배심리, 오해에서 빚어지는 갈등을 해결하면서 사회 내부에 만연된 부정성과 맞선다. 그러나 이들은 기존의 강력한 정치적 헤게모니였던 주체사상의 자장에서 벗어나 있을 뿐만 아니라 현실과 명분 사이에서 끝없이 갈등하며 고뇌하는 내면을 가진 생생한 모습을 가지고 있다. 이들은 명분으로 전락한 주체사상보다 경제적 풍요를 소망하는 체제이념을 투사한 전위적 존재들임을 밝히고자 했다. 「영근 이삭」을 세밀하게 읽으면서, 이 글은 구체적 작중현실에서 작동하는 ‘실리사회주의’의 면모와 ‘경제적 합리성’을 소유한 개인의 등장을 확인해볼 수 있었다.
Abstract
A eye-opening progress in North Korea has been stirred with Kim, Jung-Il’s political system since 2000. This study attempts to discuss a social change with ‘Practical Socialism’ claimed by Kim Jung Il’s system in Byon, Chang-ryul’s novel. Byon, Chang-ryul’s agricultural novel recently appeared is very noticeable in terms of ‘symptomatic reading.’ In his novels, the foreman of collective farm is centered and there are many anecdotes implicating the social changes by the turning of economic system in North Korea. The strategy of social development in North Korea is a way of allurement overcame the limitation of stagnating planned economy. This causes the advent of the subject based on the economic rationality which criticizes the inefficient bureaucratism and the personal favoritism, and ensures the extra profit of the individuals. In his novels, the foremen are the hero of reforming the economy of rural community. They confront the negativity in society with resolving the conflicts by laziness, bureaucratism, misunderstanding, defeatism, and peaceful living in the present. But they have both aspects of getting out of the Juche[주체] ideology which has been the powerful political hegemony and the mental agony struggling between the present and the social justice. This study shows they would like to become the advance-guard fighters who wish the economic wealth rather than the juche ideology rolled down a good excuse.
