1910년대 전후 기독교 초등교육 연구

Abstract

The subject of this article is to analyze the changes of christian educational activities and the dynamic of the educational forces like government, missions and Korea churches during 1910s. This subject is conceived to help the deep understanding of the Japanese colonial education practices in Korea. The main materials are based on the Korea Mission Field(1910-1915). In 1910s, many christian primary schools were nationally founded in Korea by Korea christians and foreign missionaries. The Schools were managed by self support of Korea christians both in school finances and school curriculum. This means that the foreign missions tried to give the schools smaller funds and to control the school curriculum. After the Japanese annexation of Korea, the foreign missions organized the Senate of Education, began to consolidate the local christian primary schools, and made the new standards of curriculum. The standards were affected by the colonial education rules. In result, the christian primary schools were incorporated into the colonial education system during 1910s in Korea against the compromise between the Japanese colonial government and the foreign missions. It was unintended result. The foreign missionaries' efforts to continue and develop the evangelical mission through the educational activities had brought the incorporation of the christian primary schools into the colonial system.
