『국조보감(國朝寶鑑)』의 간행과 제왕교육(帝王敎育) : 『조선왕조실록(朝鮮王朝實錄)』의 기사(記事)를 중심으로

Abstract

It was a very important thing to crown somebody as a king in Joseon(朝鮮), since Joseon was a kingdom where the ability and personality of a king could have a huge influence on national politics and economy. Although the method of appointment of a king was rather a stale way in which the former king selected among those very few candidates. However, those who were selected in this rather antiquated method could hardly break bounds of Confucian values in managing the nation. The reason for this could be explained by the excellence of the eduction for kings which made them as competent ones. This study focused on Kyongyon(經筵: Class for Kings) and looked through Kyongyon from the perspectives of Education looking over historical facts related to 『Kukjo Pogam(國朝寶鑑)』, which had been used as a textbook in Kyongyon. While most of the textbooks used in Kyongyon were Confucian scriptures and Chinese history books, which gave the knowledge of either how people should live his life or chinese historical facts, 『Kukjo Pogam』, which included stories of Joseon Royal government, presented substantive examples of managing the nation corresponding to the reality of Joseon. Concerning 『Kukjo Pogam』, this study set three research questions. First, what was the process of compilations and publications of 『Kukjo Pogam』? Second, how was 『Kukjo Pogam』 made use of in the process of education for kings? Third, what are the educational meanings of 『Kukjo Pogam』? Concerning the first research question, this study looked over the process of compilations of 『Kukjo Pogam』 before and after Jeongjo(正祖) respectively. Concerning the second question, this study looked over how 『Kukjo Pogam』 was made use of in the classes for kings in Yonsangun(燕山君), Jungjong(中宗) and Yongjo(英祖) & Jeongjo(正祖). Concerning the third question, this study found out the educational meanings in the fact that 『Kukjo Pogam』 was utilized as a textbook in Kyongyon, it was utilized as an ethics textbook as well as administration manual for the latter kings, and it was used as a resource of joint governance by king and subjects giving not a few implications to present education for democratic citizens. This study focused on Kyongyon, one of the royal curricula which made competent kings, and especially on 『Kukjo Pogam』, a textbook used in Kyongyon, and tried to reconstruct the true picture of Education for kings in Joseon.
