세계문학론의 등장은 문학에 대한 체계적 접근을 다시 부활시키고 있다. 세계문학론은 문학의 국제적 관계, 중심부 문학과 주변부 문학의 불균등한 관계, 세계문학 공간의 형성, 세계문학과 민족문학 간의 영향 및 간섭의 관계 등을 사유하기 위해 문학의 체계적 접근을 도입하지 않을 수 없는 것이다. 하지만 세계문학에 의해 도입되는 문학체계론은 문학의 국제적 관계와 상호문학적 과정을 분석해야 하기 때문에 기존의 체계론에 비해 훨씬 복합적이고 역동적이어야 한다. 이 글은 세계문학을 주창한 세 명의 이론가들, 파스칼 카자노바와 프랑코 모레티, 그리고 디오니즈 두리쉰이 세계문학을 어떻게 상상하는가를 비판적으로 검토하고자 한다. 카자노바와 모레티의 세계문학론은 국민/민족문학의 단위를 뛰어넘어 문학의 국제적 관계, 특히 중심과 주변의 비대칭적 관계를 통해 세계문학을 이해하고자 한다. 카자노바가 세계문학 공간 내부의 중심부와 주변부 간의 경쟁과 투쟁을 통해 세계문학의 출현을 설명하고자 한다면, 프랑코 모레티는 하나이면서 불균등한 세계문학 체제 내의 중심부 형식과 주변부 제재 간의 타협을 통해 세계문학의 이동을 설명하고자 한다. 이들은 세계문학의 권력관계를 잘 드러냈지만 중심부의 간섭과 역할에 과도한 초점을 둔 나머지 주변부의 문학적 역할을 무시하거나 수동적인 것으로 간주하는 경향이 있다. 반면 디오니즈 두리쉰은 세계문학의 출발점을 민족문학과 세계문학 사이의 상호문학적 과정에 두었고, 그 과정에서 주변부 문학이나 민족문학의 적극적 역할에 초점을 두었다. 우리는 이들을 통해 세계문학 공간의 불균등한 현실을 직시하면서 동시에 주변부 문학의 적극적 역할을 감안하는 세계문학론을 상상할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
A systematic approach to literature is being once again restored by the rise of world literature. For it cannot but introduce such systematic approach in order to think of the international relation of literary works, the unequal system of literature between the core and the periphery, the formative process of the world literary space, the interference of world literature into national literature and so on. Compared with the traditional systematic theory of literature, however, the literary systematics of world literature will be more complicated and dynamic because it has to analyze the international and interliterary processes of world literature. This paper tries to critically examine how such proponents of world literature as Pascale Casanova, Franco Moretti, and Dionýz Ďurišin are constructing their own world literature. Casanova and Moretti have imagined world literature in terms of the international relationship of literature beyond the unit of the national literature, in particular the asymmetrical relationship of the core and the periphery. Casanova explains the emergence of world literature through the competition and struggle of peripheral writers for recognition within the world literary space, while Moretti analyzes the travelling of world literature into various contact zones within the one-and-unequal systems of world literature where the compromise between the form from the core and the materials of the periphery is shown. They try to show the power relation of world literature by focusing upon the influence of the core literature but tend to disregard the literary reception of the periphery or considers it to be passive. Unlike Casanova and Moretti, Dionýz Ďurišin attends to the interliterary process between national literature and world literature as the starting point of world literature and bestows an important role on the reception of local and national literature. Through their theories, we need to imagine an idea of world literature which takes into account the unequal reality of the world literature and at the same time receives the subjective ability of the peripheral literature.
