Abstract
Chinese research about ‘Resisting United States and Aiding Korea(hereafter RUAK)’ campaign deserves academic attention as it confront with ‘voluntarism’ dilemma of early PRC. During ‘RUAK’ campaign, could ‘leadership’ of Chinese Communist Party(hereafter CCP) coexist with voluntary participation of Chinese people? “Regime consolidation” is the common explanation of RUAK campaign for Chinese scholar, as it is for the western counterparts; it generally concluded that CCP’s consolidated control and govern ment was indispensable for Early PRC most of which people had the fear of ‘Resisting United States’ and passive attitude about ‘Aiding Korea’. But Chinese scholars has also shed a light on ‘voluntary participation’ of Chinese people for RUAK campaign. But most of them regard the voluntarism of Chinese for RUAK campaign as result of party leadership and it prevent us from understanding the ‘voluntarism’. Chinese ‘voluntarism’ for RUAK campaign was partly based on not national and not patriotic but definitely selfish interest of Chinese society, as a few Chinese studies about RUAK campaign on women, religion, medical-health area have revealed. But even those studies, which dare to examine ‘selfish’ reason of RUAK, have never explored disloyalty of Chinese to CCP’s intention. Chinese scholars need to search ‘creative accommodation’ of Chinese people during the RUAK campaign, behavior of transforming ideology or rhetoric of regime on their own which have been already revealed by their western counterparts, to explain real RUAK.
