Abstract

This paper aims to examine the statement patterns of sexually assaulted people with intellectual disability and the related influencing factors. To this end, the statements of 47 persons with intellectual disability who received official statement investigations because of alleged victims by sexual assault. According to the results, 23.4% of the victims spontaneously disclosed their sexual assault initially and quite some of the victims reaching 25.5% never disclosed their sexual assault in advance. Differences in the types of initial disclosure according to demographic variables were no significant. According to the relationships between victims and perpetrator, the types of initial disclosure were significantly different. The type of questions that the most frequently used by forensic interviewer was Wh-question. Some interviewers never used any invitation. The amounts of information according to invitations and Wh-questions were significantly higher than other question types. Social Age was determined to be significant predictor of the amounts of information during the forensic interview. Implications of the finding and limitations of current study, as well as, recommendations for future studies have been provided.
