Abstract

This study aimed to understand the life of deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) music artists from their own perspectives. The in-depth interviews and focus group interview were conducted with nine deaf/hard of hearing music artistes. As the results in this study, revealed thirteen subthemes in three themes: ‘professional music artist’, ‘creating activities for Deaf art, and ’emerging Able-art genres through the Deaf art’. The findings from a total of thirteen subthemes showed significant factors between hearing impairment and music art in the construction of the Deaf art and Able-art genres. This study provided practical implications for DHH people to understand strategic choice and participation in culture & art activities as consumers and suppliers of music art.
