대입 수험생 어머니의 불안과 가족 경계에 관한 목회상담 연구

Abstract

The object of this study is to analyze, on the basis of grounded theory, the anxiety that examinees’ mothers may feel in an academic-orientated society such as ours, and how the reaction to this affects family boundaries. The research is to be provided as research data for pastoral counseling. For this study, 13 mothers with college entrance examination candidates as their children were selected for research. It was carried out in the manner of in-depth interviews to figure the causes of the feeling of anxiety, phenomena, context, intervening conditions, suitable reaction strategies and consequences. The results were presented in the form of paradigm models. It may be said that the core category of this very study is the establishment of boundaries by mothering and communication. Through analysis of various examples and making of hypothetical statements, it was possible to present the following four different types of grounded theories. Firstly, when there is “perfect mothering” and a competent level of communication, an “enmeshed” boundary is formed. Secondly, when there is “perfect mothering” and interrupted communication, an “enmeshed” boundary is also formed. Thirdly, when there is “good enough mothering” and competent communication, a “clear” boundary is established. Lastly, when there is “rejective mothering” and interrupted communication, a “disengaged” boundary is formed. In addition, from a pastoral counseling point of view, it can be seen that the most effective way of reducing anxiety for an examinee’s mother is to perform “good enough mothering” and to establish a “clear” boundary. On the basis of this study’s results, some suggestions for in-church group programs and counseling, have been made to help mothers of examinees experiencing anxiety.
