새터민의 상담에 대한 요구도와 도움요청 장애요인에 관한 연구

본 연구는 급증하고 있는 새터민들의 상담에 대한 요구도와 도움요청 장애요인을 확인하여 이들의 문화적 배경과 욕구에 조화를 이루는 상담 서비스 모형의 기초를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 먼저, 새터민의 상담에 대한 요구도(호소문제, 상담의 필요성, 상담목표, 상담자 유형, 상담형태)와 도움요청의 장애요인을 살펴보았다. 연구 대상은 2003년-2004년간 하나원내에서 사회적응 교육을 받고 있으며 설문지에 성실히 응답한 남한생활을 거의 하지 않은 순수한 새터민 560명(남자 210명, 여자 350명)과 도움요청에 어려움을 느끼는 요인에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 위해 실시한 반구조화된 면접에 동의한 새터민 15명(남자 6명, 여자 9명)이었다. 상담요구도 조사 결과 ① 퇴소 후 남한생활 적응에 대한 걱정, ② 주거지 문제, ③ 진로결정, ④ 신체화(두통), ⑤ 정서적 외로움을 호소하였고 도움요청의 주요대상은 ① 스스로 해결, ② 친구나 동료, ③ 부모인 것으로 드러났다. 상담목표에 대한 요구사항은 ① “남한사회에 필요한 정보를 받고 싶다”, ② “상담을 통해 희망을 얻고 싶다”, ③ “결함이 무엇인지 깨닫게 해주고 솔직히 훈육해 주었으면 좋겠다”는 의견이었고 상담방식은 ① 개인상담, ② 남한사람들과 함께 하는 혼성 집단상담, ③ 같은 탈북자들끼리의 동질집단 상담을 선호하였다. 상담자 에 대해서는 ① 온정적인 상담자, ② 탈북자 상담경력이 많은 상담자, ③ 전문적인 상담자에게 호감을 느꼈고 하나원 수료 후 상담서비스 접근에 대해서는 ① “어디서 어떻게 찾아가야할지 방법을 모른다”, ② “상담자라 하더라도 탈북자를 이해하지 못할 것 같다”라고 응답 하였고 ① 내방상담과 ② 방문상담을 선호하였다. 전문적 도움요청의 장애요인을 양적 분석한 결과 자기 해결적 성향과 접근성, 남한 상담자에 대한 괴리감으로 인해 도움요청의 어려움을 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 도움요청의 어려움에 대한 질적 면접을 주제분석 한 결과 상호감시 비판의 북한문화, 탈북상황, 제3국 체류기간의 차별대우, 지지체계의 미약, 은신생활에서 강화되어지는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 전문적 도움을 필요로 하지만 도움요청에 어려움을 느끼는 잠재적 내담자들이 전문적 상담에 대해 지니고 있는 거리감과 부정적 태도를 감소시킬 수 있는 남한의 상담자 역할, 상담목표 및 상담형태에 대한 논의와 더불어 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속연구 제안을 제시 하였다.

Abstract

To identify counseling need assessment and a study of barrier to help-seeking behavior in North Korean refugee was conducted. Responses(n=560) to counseling need survey and the revision of Morrissey' s(1997) BASH(Barriers to Adolescents Seeking Help) were examined. This study was tried to analyze the Korean refugees' appeal problem types. The major results through this study are as follows; The first, the major appeal type was fear of adjustment, house apportionment, career decision, psychosomatic disorder, loneliness. North Korean refugees were asked to report who had sought help from parents, peers, self-help, sibling, teachers and counselor for assistance in coping with a major problem. Analyses revealed that more self-help or reported seeking help from peers. The hope of counseling object demand information, hope, & advice. The counseling type wanted more individual counseling, group counseling with Korean people. The counselor attraction related warmth, experience, professional. Barriers to help seeking were associated with tendency of self-help, and access difficulty. Qualitative interview was done on 15 subject from North Korean refugee. The interview asked questions on reasons for barrier to help-seeking behavior and experiences in escaped from North. Data from the interview were analyzed using theme analysis method. Results showed that the reasons for barrier to help-seeking behavior were decision to defection from North Korea, limitations to social network, discrimination, a life in seclusion. Finally, I presented strengths and limitation of this study and suggestions for future studies
