Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine whether the perceived organizational support affected depression through job burnout, targeting 351 office workers in their 20s and 30s. In addition, we investigated whether the relationship between perceived organizational support and job burnout depends on self-compassion. Finally, we verified whether the mediation effect of perceived organizational support, job burnout, and depression depends on the degree of self-compassion. The results are as follows. First, perceived organizational support affected depression by partially mediating job burnout. Second, self-compassion moderated the effect of perceived organizational support on job burnout. In other words, office workers with high self-compassion experienced less job burnout when they perceived high organizational support. Third, it was confirmed that moderated mediating effect was significant by identifying self-compassion moderate the relationship in which perceived organizational support leads to depression through job burnout. These findings suggest that it is necessary to pay attention to developing self-compassion along with the perceived organizational support for office workers who are depressed due to job burnout.
