초등 저학년 저소득층 다문화가정 아동의 관용어 특성 분석

관용어(idiom)는 일상 언어에서 문법적이거나 어휘 자체가 갖는 개념적 의미와는 전혀 다른 제 삼의 의미로 굳어진 구나 절로, 그 언어사회의 전통이나 문화적 배경을 담고 있다. 본 연구에서는 초등 1, 2, 3학년의 저소득층 다문화가정 아동 12명, 저소득층 및 중산층 일반가정 아동 각 12명 총 36명을 대상으로 그들의 관용어 능력을 비교 분석하였다. 신체부위와 관련된 <주어+서술어>의 문장형 관용어 표현 10개를 짧은 대화와 이야기 맥락에 포함시켜 이해능력을 알아보았다. 개별적으로 연구자가 글을 읽어주고 세 개의 보기 중에서 적절한 답을 고르게 하였을 때, 다문화가정 아동은 관용어 표현 선택과제와 해석 선택과제 모두에서 일반가정 아동 두 집단과 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 유의미한 차이는 관용어 해석 선택과제에서 저소득층 일반가정 아동과 중산층 일반가정 아동 간에 나타났다. 또한 다문화가정 아동은 관용어의 의미를 해석할 때 보인 두 가지 오류유형에서도 일반가정 아동 두 집단과 유의미한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이러한 본 결과는 관용어 이해능력의 차이가 다문화가정이라는 배경과 사회경제적 지위에 의한 것만은 아닐 것임을 시사한다. 게다가 이 연구결과는 학령기 다문화가정 아동의 언어특성을 살피는 기초자료가 될 뿐만 아니라 그들의 언어 평가 및 지도에 도움이 될 것이다.
Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate of the ability to comprehend idioms in children from multicultural families. Thirty-six children(1st to 3rd grades) participated in the present study and were divided into three groups: ⒜ 12 multicultural children from low SES families, ⒝ 12 non-multicultural children from low SES families, ⒞ 12 non-multicultural children from middle SES families. In this study, children listened to ten different idioms, each presented in a brief dialogue and story context. And then, they were asked to choose the best idiomatic expression to supply the missing part from three alternatives. They also selected the best interpretation of the idiom from three alternatives. The results indicated that ⒜ On idiom comprehension, multicultural children were not different from those of two non-multicultural groups, and ⒝ multicultural children were also not different in error type occurred when interpreting the idiom.
