Abstract
Recent interest in career growth opportunity has increased. Particular emphasis is placed on the need to offer opportunities for continuous growth within the organization to attract and retain members of the MZ generation who seek personal development and growth. This study was conducted with the intent of synthesizing previous research on career growth opportunity and revealing the implications that research on career growth opportunity can have in the fields of HRM and HRD, as well as future research directions. In order to accomplish this, 45 domestic and international documents were collected through a systematic literature review, and the concept and perspective of career growth opportunity, measurement tools, and related variables were analyzed. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. Since 2016, there has been a rise in the number of domestic and international studies on career growth opportunity. Second, both domestic and international research has been conducted on workers of various sizes with various occupational groups or jobs. Third, 12 Korean studies on the perspective and measurement of career growth opportunity all cited Nouri and Parker's (2013) research and used the term career growth opportunity(CGO). Fourth, individual demographic characteristics, personality, competence, attitude, organizational competency, culture, and manager characteristics were found to influence career growth opportunities. Also, satisfaction, commitment, enthusiasm, exhaustion, turnover, learning, performance, psychological empowerment, work-family conflict, etc. are pointed as an outcome of career growth opportunity. Based on these findings, implications for HRD research were discussed.
