본 연구는 의료통역 과정에서 아랍어 의료통역사와 치료를 목적으로 한국을 방문하는 아랍 환자 간에 나타나는 갈등의 유형을 분석하여 그 원인을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다 본 연구는 아랍어 의료통역사와 아랍 환자간의 갈등 유형을 양적으로 측정하고, 갈등의 내용을 질적으로 측정한 혼합연구이다. 분석 결과 아랍어 의료 통역사와 아랍 환자 간에 직접적인 갈등과 외부 요인으로 인한 간접적인 갈등이 있으며, 통역사의 역할에 대한 인식 부족이 가장 큰 원인으로 나타났다. 또한 갈등은 통역사와 환자간의 갈등이 아닌 통역사 고용제도와 한국 병원의 진료시스템에 대한 이해 부족으로 발생 되기도 한다. 지속적으로 아랍환자를 유치하기 위해서는 만족스러운 의료 서비스가 제공되어야 한다. 따라서 질 좋은 의료 서비스 제공의 핵심 역할을 하는 의료통역사의 위치가 정립되기 위해 의료통역사의 역할과 업무의 경계가 명확해져야 하며, 해외환자를 위해 진료 시스템의 개선 및 의료 통역사 배정 시스템의 개선 노력이 필요하다.
Abstract
This study examines the types of conflict situations arising during the process of medical interpreting between Arabic medical interpreters and Arabian patients visiting Korea to receive medical treatment, with the aim of understanding the causes of these conflicts. The study took a mixed method approach that combines a quantitative measurement of the types of conflicts arising between Arabic medical interpreters and patients, together with qualitative examinations of the conflict situations. It was shown that direct conflicts do arise between Arabic medical interpreters and their patients and indirect conflicts due to external factors, and that these conflicts could mainly be attributed to a lack of understanding about the role of interpreters. In some cases the cause of conflict did not arise between the interpreter and patient but rather due to a lack of understanding about employment policies for interpreters and/or the medical system of Korea. Satisfactory medical service is necessary to continue to attract Arabian patients to Korea. Therefore, it will be necessary to clearly define the role and work boundaries of medical interpreters, who play a crucial role in providing a high quality of medical care for Arabian patients, and to improve medical treatment systems and interpreter assignment systems for foreign patients.
