영성 훈련에 대한 두 관점 :푸코와 아도의 논의를 중심으로

이 논문은 ‘자기 배려’에 대한 명확한 해명의 일환으로 푸코가 차용했던 ‘영성 훈련’의 개념을 분석한다. 또 영성 훈련을 푸코와 동일한 자료들에 의거하여분석하지만 다른 관점에서 해석하고 있는 아도의 논의를 보여줄 것이다. 아도는 고대철학이란 무엇인가에서 영성 훈련에 대한 주요 개념들을 논의한다. 이는 푸코의 주체의 해석학에 등장하는 영성 훈련의 개념들과 상당 부분 일치한다. 두 학자 모두가 고대 철학의 주요 논점을 영성 훈련으로 보고 있고 이때 영성 훈련의 개념을 ‘생활양식’과 ‘지혜’, ‘삶의 기술 연마’로 집약하여 설명한다는 유사점이 있다. 또 두 학자 모두가 고대 철학의 정신을 ‘삶의 철학’에서발견하려 한다는 점을 미뤄볼 때 이들이 파악하고 있는 영성 훈련의 개념은 동일한 이해의 뿌리를 갖는다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 흥미로운 점은 아도가영성 훈련을 활용하고 있는 푸코의 후기 연구를 오역의 결과라고 지적하면서그가 차용하고 있는 영성 훈련의 개념을 직접적으로 비판한다는 점이다. 또 이러한 아도의 비판은 푸코 후기 연구에 대한 핵심적인 비판으로 평가받고 있다는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 이 논문은 ‘영성 훈련’이라는 동일한 개념을 활용하고 있지만 서로 다른 시각에서 문제화하고 있는 두 학자의 논점이 대립하는 이유를 규명하여 그 문제의 핵심에 접근하고자 한다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로 푸코와 아도가 ‘영성 훈련’을 다르게 해석하는 이유가 두 학자의 사유틀의 차이에있다는 점을 논구하고 이러한 사유틀의 차이는 두 학자의 불일치한 세계관에기인한 양상임을 해명할 것이다.
Abstract
Foucault used to clarify‘self – consideration’. This paper also inspects Hadot's point, which uses the same conception as Foucault but shows a different interpretation. Hadot discusses key concepts of spiritual training in what is ancient philosophy. Both scholars are looking at the main points of ancient philosophy in Philosophy of Existential Life such as‘lifestyle’,‘wisdom’, and‘training of life skills’. In this sense, the concept of spiritual training that the two scholars use is rooted in the same understanding. But what is interesting is that Hadot evaluates the notion of spiritual training that Foucault applies as a misunderstanding. And furthermore, It is used that regarded as a critical assessment of the later studies of Foucault. So I scrutinize the position of the two opponents and elucidate why they conflict with some reason. From this, I argue that the difference between the viewpoints of the two scholars is due to differences frame of thought, and that differences frame of thought are fundamentally caused by contrariety in world-views.
