이 글은 ‘생동적 현재에 대한 존재론적 해명’이라는 살에 대한 레토릭 외부에서 살에 대한 해명 난망의 원인을 다룬다. 이를 위해, 먼저 메를로-퐁티의 철학에서 살 개념이 요구되는 이유를 밝힌 후, 그가 존재론과 형이상학을 구분하고 있다는 것, 나아가 존재론을 형이상학 너머에 위치시키고자 했던 기획이 그가 말하는 ‘새로운 존재론’적 기획이라는 사실을 주장할 것이다. 그 과정에서 본 논문은 다음과 같은 주장을 또한 전개한다. 살 해석의 어려움은 살 개념 자체의 고유한 성격으로부터 기인하기도 하지만, 동시에 그가 펼치는 살에 대한 해명이 지각의 현상학적 기획에서의 구체성과 실존성 사이의 구도를 더는 유지하지 않기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 그 원인을 다음과 같이 파악한다. 살의 존재론은 그것이 지각의 현상학적 목적의 심화인 한, 지각의 현상학적 기획으로부터 유리되지 않는다. 이때 그 기획은 후설과 하이데거의 현상학적 전통을 유지한다. 그러나 동시에 그것은 지각의 현상학적 작업으로부터 유리되기도 하는데, 이는 내재성의 심화를 향해 펼쳐진 결과 살 존재에 부여된 보편적 성질로부터 기인한다. 본 논문은 살의 현상학적 존재론의 성격은 살이라는 보편 존재의 모순성이 이른바 살에 대한 ‘생생한 기술’로 얼마만큼 ‘해명’될 수 있는가로 판단될 수 있으며, 그 정도에 따라 살 철학의 정체성이 결정됨을 주장한다.
Abstract
This article discusses the cause of the difficulty in clarifying the meaning of the flesh outside of the rhetoric of “ontological elucidation of the living present.” To this end, after having first specified why the concept of flesh imposes itself on the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty, we claim that he distinguishes ontology and metaphysics and that the project of placing ontology beyond metaphysics is what he calls a “new ontology” project. In the process, we learn the following facts: The difficulty of interpreting the flesh is attributed to the singularity of the concept of the flesh itself and, at the same time, it is because its explanation of the flesh no longer maintains the structure between concreteness and existentiality in the phenomenological project of perception. In this article, the case is argued as follows: The ontology of the flesh is not disconnected from the phenomenological project of perception in the sense that it deepens the phenomenology of perception. At this stage, the project maintains the phenomenological tradition of Husserl and Heidegger. However, at the same time, it is disconnected from the phenomenological work of perception, which relates to the nature of the flesh that must be both immanent and universal. Ultimately, the elucidation of the flesh can be judged by the extent to which the contradiction of the flesh can be “described vividly.”
