본 논문의 목적은 사회생물학은 동물과 인간의 사회적 행동을 어떻게 진화의 관점에서 설명하고 있는지를 우선적으로 규명하는 데 있다. 그 과정에서 인간의 윤리 혹은 도덕 원리도 진화의 관점에서 예외 없이 설명될 수 있는지를 확인하고자 한다. 유전자 결정론에 바탕을 둔 사회생물학적 인간 이해, 덧붙여 인간의 도덕 원리에 대한 그들의 해명방식은 어떤 문제점이 있는지 함께 살펴보고자 한다. 또한, 윤리학자의 시선에서 인간의 도덕 원리에 대한 진화론적 접근에 대해 비교적 열린 자세를 취하고, 사회생물학의 영향을 비판적으로 평가하는 피터 싱어의 입장도 함께 살펴보고자 한다. 마지막으로 동물과 인간의 공통점을 넘어 인간 고유의 특성을 해명하기 위해서 사회생물학은 어떤 측면을 보완해야 하는지, 또한 해결해야 할 과제들은 무엇인지를 살펴보면서 논의를 마무리하고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to primarily investigate how sociobiology explains the social behaviors of animals and humans from an evolutionary perspective. In the process, it aims to examine whether human ethics or moral principles can be consistently explained from an evolutionary standpoint without exceptions. This study also intends to explore the problems with sociobiological explanations of human understanding based on genetic determinism and their explanations of ethical principles. Furthermore, this study aims to adopt a relatively open-minded approach toward the evolutionary perspective on human moral principles from the viewpoint of ethicists. It seeks to examine the stance of Peter Singer, who critically evaluates the influence of sociobiology. Finally, to explain the unique characteristics of humans beyond the similarities between animals and humans, this study intends to conclude the discussion by examining the aspects sociobiology needs to complement and the challenges it needs to address.
