하이데거 공간개념을 통한 플라톤의 코라(chōra)와 아리스토텔레스의 토포스(topos) 비교연구

초록

공간은 자명하면서도 파악하기 어려운 개념이다. 칸트는 공간을 의식의 고유한 측면으로 보았지만, 고대 그리스는 공간을 주로 외부 사물과 연관시킨다. 이러한 고대의 개념은 우리의 상식과 일치하는 것처럼 보이지만, 그 개념을 파악하기는 여전히 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 고대 그리스의 공간개념인 코라(chōra)와 토포스(topos)를 살펴봄으로써 고대 그리스의 공간개념 일반을 해명한다. 이를 우리는 플라톤과 아리스토텔레스의 공간개념에서 알 수 있다. 이 연구의 주요 목적은 이 두 철학자의 공간개념을 비교하고 그것의 관계를 이해하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 논자는 하이데거의 『존재와 시간』의 분석을 바탕으로 양자를 함께 설명할 수 있는 근원적 공간개념을 모색한다. 이로써 이 논문은 고대 그리스의 공간개념의 의미를 명확히 할 뿐만 아니라, 공간개념의 현상학적 이해를 밝히고자 노력할 것이다.

Abstract

Space is a self-evident yet difficult concept to grasp. Kant viewed space as an inherent aspect of consciousness, but ancient Greece associated space primarily with external objects. Although these ancient concepts seem consistent with our common sense, they are still difficult to grasp. Therefore, in this study, we elucidate the general spatial concept of ancient Greece by examining the ancient Greek spatial concepts of chōra and topos. However, although these words have the same meaning, they also represent space in different ways. We can know this from the spatial concepts of Plato and Aristotle. The main purpose of this study is to compare the spatial concepts of these two philosophers and understand their relationship. To this end, based on the analysis of Heidegger’s Being and Time, the author searches for a fundamental spatial concept that can explain both. As a result, this paper will not only clarify the meaning of the ancient Greek concept of space, but will also strive to reveal a phenomenological understanding of the concept of space.
