Abstract
The Musinran, which took place in the fourth year(1728) of King Yeongjo's reign in Joseon, was the explosion of political conflicts among Noron, Soron and Namin in the form of disturbance. Even after the revolt was repressed, the “Musinyeodang” still supported and advocated the Musinran. They kept raising a revolt through the reign of King Yeongjo to return to the political arena or seize political power. Trying to overcome the limitations of previous study, this study found and reviewed 11 revolt cases by Musinyeodang recorded in Chuangeupgukan, which is a collection of investigations and written judgments for felons during Joseon. In the 11 revolt cases, the Musinyeodang raised a revolt in the forms of Goaeseo, conspiracy, and anonymous letter at the test site. Goaeseo was actively used by them since it was capable of instigating the people or forming public opinions. In case of anonymous letters at the site of the state exam, they would submit an anonymous letter containing disloyal content to the king in an obvious way at the open site where many people gathered. These anonymous letters were also influential. The revolt cases were classified according to the human composition of Musinyeodang: the revolts raised by those who took direct part in the Musinran, those raised by Soron members, those raised by Namin members, and those raised by individuals from various classes to mimic the Musinran. In the Musinran of 1728, the noblemen of Namin and Soron hardlinerssoron led the revolt. In the activities of Musinyeodang following the revolt during the reign of King Yeongjo, various classes participated including collapsed local noblemen, Jungin, and common people as well as Soron hardlinerssoron and Namin. The scope of classes involved in the revolts expanded. The study then examined the local trends of the revolt cases by the Musinyeodang and found that their activities were prominent at places of exile in Chungcheong and Jeolla Provinces. In the Musinran, they succeeded in occupying Byeongyeongseong near Cheongju, Chungchong Province. The activities of Musinyeodang were prominent especially in the area. Key words : 『Chuangeupgukan』, Musinyeodang, Conspiracy, Goaeseo, Anonymous letter at the test site, Mooshin Revolt, King Yeongjo, hardlinerssoron, Namin The revolt cases by Musinyeodang continued around the nation for about 30 years, which suggests that the Musinran continued to have impacts for many years even after it was repressed. Previous studies reported that mainly Soron members raised a revolt on the back of Musinyeodang after losing their power due to Musinran. Many of the researches emphasized that noblemen in the Soron line were punished for the revolt cases by Musinyeodang. The study, however, reviewed 11 revolt cases by Musinyeodang and found that one of the axes in the revolts was local Namin members, Jungin and common people.
