Problems in the description of KoreanJapanese relations : focused on the content of the contemporary Japanese historical introductions and dictionaries, in the periodof 1904~1945 This paper tries to analyze the problems concerning the content of contemporary Japanese historical introductions and dictionaries, which are related to the Korean–Japanese relations. The period is from Russo–Japanese War to 1945, the end of the Second World War. As a result, contents with negative connotation were found out, namely the absence of proper historical consciousness in terms of critics and reflections about Japanese colonial rule in Korea, explanation and evaluation of the Korean resistance. The major problems are as follows: first, concerning Russo–Japanese War, Russian expansion desire is emphasized and at the same time the Japanese intention to invade Korea is not clear presented. Second, concerning the annexation of Korea by Japan, the beneficial side of Japanese rule leading to the modernization of Korea is wide presented. Additionally Korean resistance against the annexation is not enough described. Third, the negative result of the Japanese Imperialism's policy and the suffering of Koreans are not explicit. Fourth, legacy of the Korean resistance is not proper estimated, concrete details about Japanese oppression are not presented. Also, the connection with the Korean resistance and independence is neglected.
