일본사에 관한 사전과 개설서에서 공통으로 나타나는 큰 문제점으로 두 가지를 들 수 있다. 첫째는, 대체로 현대사 서술 전반에 걸쳐서 공통적으로 그 이전의 역사에 관한 서술에 비해 일본의 국제적 시야를 넓히고 다양한 국제관계를 묘사하고 있으면서도, 여전히 강대국 중심의 국제관계에 치중하고 있다는 특징을 갖고 있다. 둘째는, 현대사 서술에 있어서 개설서와 사전들이 국민국가 중심의 서술에 치우쳐 주변국, 소수자, 경계인에 대한 언급이 부족하다는 점을 들 수 있다. 조선이나 대만과 같은 전전 일본 제국의 식민지와의 새로운 관계 구축, 그리고 중국과 동남아시아 국가 등의 일본군 점령지에 대한 전후 처리에 대해서는 서술이 미흡하거나 전무하다. 또한 민족의 변동에 관한 서술이 부족할 뿐 아니라, 일본 국내에 있어서 사회적 소수자들이 처한 정치적 상황에 관한 서술도 극히 부족하다.
Abstract
The Problem of Portrayals on KoreaJapan Relations in Some Dictionaries and Introductory Books relevant to Modern Japanese History after World War II The paper deals with the problems portrayed on the relations between Korea and Japan in the dictionaries and the introductory books on modern history of Japan after World War II. First, while the references generally describe Japan's foreign relations and its international relationsduring modern period, most of its contents are mainly concentrated on the foreign relations with the powerful nations. 'West–centered' world view and 'China–centered' oriental ideologies are prevalent in most of the references. Many dealt only with Japan's relationships with America and China, and for its relationship with Korea, only Korean war and economic relations are accounted for. Second, the description of modern history of Japan in the introductory books and dictionaries are focused mainly on the own nation–state's interests and therefore, lacks portrayals of neighboring countries, minorities and marginal people. An account of peoples movement, that is, the changes of the nationality' are relatively limited and the explanations of the political situations of social minorities within Japan are also lacking in these references.
