조선전기 일본 세력에 대한 조선의 호피･표피 사여

일본에는 호랑이와 표범이 서식하지 않아 호피와 표피를 해외에서 수입하여 수요를 충당했고, 그 주요 수입원이 조선의 사여였다. 조선은 태종부터 선조까지 총 199회의 호피와 표피 사여가 있었고, 호피 522장, 표피 395장으로 총 917장의 사여가 있었으며, 조선은 총 26개 일본 세력들에 대하여 호피와 표피를 사여하였다. 26개 세력 중 절반 정도 되는 12개 세력이 조선과 가까운 규슈 지역에 위치하고 있었다. 조선은 일본 세력들을 계서적으로 차등을 두어 호피와 표피를 사여하였다. 최상위는 일본국왕(호피 10장, 표피10장)이며 그 다음은 일본국왕의 최측근 호족 세력(호피 4장, 표피 2장)이었으며 마지막으로 지방 호족 세력(호피 2장, 표피 1~2장)이었다. 이러한 계서적인 차등은 조선의 통신사사목에서 각 일본 세력별로 줄 예물 목록에서 더욱 명확하게 확인할 수 있었다. 조선이 이들 일본 세력에게 호피와 표피를 사여하여 준 목적으로는 일본 세력의 토산물 진헌에 대한 회례가 대부분을 차지하였다. 조선은 일본 세력들이 원하는 물품인 호피와 표피를 회례하여 주며 교린의 목적인 우호관계와 평화 유지를 할 수 있었던 것이다. 이 외에도 왜구 소탕 공로, 피랍 조선인 쇄환, 일본 표착 조선인 송환, 외교 문제 해결, 선물과 부조의 목적으로 회례를 하여주기도 하였다.
Abstract
In Japan, there were no tigers and leopards, so tiger leatger and leopard leather were imported from abroad to meet the demand, and the main source of income was Joseon's Sayeo(賜與). Joseon had a total of 199 tiger leopards and leopard leopards from King Taejong to King Seonjo, 522 tiger leatgers, 395 leopard leatgers, and a total of 917 leatgers, and Joseon Sayeo tiger leatger and leopard leatger to 26 forces in Japan. Of the 26 clans, about half, 12 clans were located in the Kyushu area close to Joseon. Joseon classified the forces that Sayep tiger leatger and leopard leatger in a genealogical way. The highest level was the Japanese king, followed by the closest clan of the Japanese king, and finally the local clan. This genealogical difference could be more clearly confirmed in the list of gifts given by each Japanese clans in Joseon's telecommunications affairs. The purpose of Joseon's purchase of tiger leatger and leopard leatger to these Japanese clans was to wipe out Japanese pirates, to close Koreans in captivity, to repatriate Koreans to Japan, to resolve diplomatic issues, to provide gifts and assistance. However, most of the reasons were in Hoelye(回禮) for the Japanese forces' dedication of their native products. Joseon was able to maintain friendly relations and peace for the purpose of kyorin by worshipping tiger leather and leopard leather, items that the Japanese clans wanted.
