한국어 의문 구문은 ‘-니, -냐, -습니까’ 등 보통의 의문형어미, ‘-는지, -느냐, 는가’ 등 명사절의 의문형어미, ‘-느냐고, -더냐고’의 간접인용절 의문형어미, ‘-나, -을까’의 자문의 의문형어미에 의해서 형성된다. 의문사는 의문사 용법과 불확정 용법을 가지는데, 의문사 용법은 통사구조의 C 범주인 의문형어미와의 호응에 따라 해석된다. 의문사를 양화사의 하나로 기술하되, 표준적 형식의미론의 관행과는 달리, 의문사, 양화사의 논리형태 이동을 가정하지 않고, 의문사의 다양한 통사적 위치에 따라 타입 전이 규칙을 활용하는 가변 타입 접근 방안을 실행했다. 특히 의문형어미가 양상 요소라는 가정과 양상 표현인 명제를 명제들의 집합으로 전환하는 담화화용론적 추론규칙을 통하여 형식의미론적 의문문 연구에서 지적된 문제들을 해결했다.
Abstract
Korean interrogative clauses are marked by a number of interrogative endings, i.e. normal markers like -ni, -supnikka, markers forming nominal clauses like -nunci, -nunya, -nunka, markers forming indirect quotative clauses like -nunyako, -tenyako, and markers of self-questioning like -na, -ulkka, which do not require answers. Every WH-phrase in Korean has a potential ambiguity, one reading as an indeterminate phrase, and the other as an interrogative phrase, the latter use is licensed by an agreement with an m-commanding interrogative ending, located in C head position. In this paper, I provide a description of syntactico-semantic composition of Korean interrogative sentences, on the basis of the standard formal semantics, but with a special assumption that interrogative endings in Korean are modal elements conveying dubitative meanings, which I claim must be posited as a dubitative ordering source paired with a doxastic modal base in terms of Kratzer’s theory of modality. For the analysis of the syntactico-semantic composition of interrogative phrases in Korean, I take a flexible types approach as opposed to an LF-movement approach.
