연구목적: 본 연구는 한국무용의 기초 훈련체계로 자리매김한 기본춤의 역사적 전개와 창작기본춤의 형성과 발전을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 기본춤이 단순한 기초 동작의 습득을 넘어 시대적 가치와 교육철학, 그리고 예술적 창조성을 반영하는 체계임을 밝히고자 한다. 연구방법: 문헌연구로 학술논문, 학위논문, 문헌 및 안무가들의 저술을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 기본춤이 제의적 기원인 문묘일무에서 출발하여 근대기의 입춤과 신무용기본을 거쳐, 현대의 창작기본춤인 바기본과 태극기본으로 발전해 온 과정을 시대 흐름 속에서 체계적으로 정리하였다. 연구결과: 한국무용 기본춤은 전통적으로 예악사상과 공동체적 질서를 구현한 신체적 언어였으며, 근대기에 들어 교육적 체계와 예술적 수련의 기초로 정립되었다. 이후 창작기본춤은 이러한 전통과 근대의 원리를 계승하면서도 현대적 교육과 창작의 요구에 맞추어 재해석되었다. 특히 바기본은 전통의 조형성과 호흡을 단순화하여 학습자 누구나 활용할 수 있는 훈련 체계를 제시하였고, 태극기본은 동양철학의 태극 구조를 토대로 신체와 정신을 아우르는 철학적 훈련법을 확립하였다. 결론: 한국무용의 기본춤은 제의적 기원에서 근대적 전환과 창작적 재구성을 거쳐 시대마다 새로운 의미와 가치를 담아 발전해왔다. 기본춤은 전통, 근대, 현대 창작을 잇는 연속적 과정 속에서, 한국무용의 교육적 가치와 예술적 창조성을 동시에 담아내는 핵심적 토대임이 확인되었다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to examine the historical development of basic dance as a foundational training system in Korean dance and to investigate the formation and evolution of creative basic dance. The purpose is to reveal that basic dance is not merely the acquisition of fundamental movements, but a system that reflects the values of each era, educational philosophy, and artistic creativity. Methods: This study employed a literature review by analyzing academic articles, dissertations, historical documents, and choreographers’ writings. Through this, the research systematically organized the progression of basic dance from its ritual origin in Munmyo-ilmu to the Ipchum and New Dance Basic of the modern period, and finally to contemporary creative basic dances such as Bar gibon(1975) and Taegeuk Structure Basic Dance(1998). Result: Korean basic dance functioned as a bodily language embodying Confucian ideals of ritual and communal order, later becoming an educational system and foundation for artistic training. Creative basic dances reinterpreted these principles to meet contemporary needs: Bar gibon simplified traditional form and breathing for broad accessibility, while Taegeuk Basic Dance established a holistic training method integrating body and mind through the philosophy of the Taegeuk structure. Conclusion: The basic dance of Korean dance has evolved through its ritual origins, modern transitions, and creative reinterpretations, acquiring new meanings and values in each era. It has been confirmed as a core foundation that simultaneously embodies educational value and artistic creativity, linking tradition, modernity, and contemporary creation.
