Abstract
Purpose: This study analyzed the socio-cultural meanings inherent in Kangs Sun-young Taepyeongmu based on Barthes's semiotics theory. Methods: Inductive analysis based on a literature review. Result: Taepyeongmu, applying Barthes's semiotics theory, is as follows. Nakgung symbolizes the path the queen, a national authority, takes to conduct a communal ritual. Teobullim is interpreted as the creator's act of expanding the sacred world, aligning order and expanding the land to implement cosmic order. Ollimchae signifies the process of condensing inherent energy for the beginning of life and the cycle of nature. Balppedre-24 beats represent the culmination of ritual acts performed by an authority figure who embodies femininity and humanity, acting as a spiritual pillar. Dosalpuri symbolizes the transformation of a person into a brilliant light through a purification ritual, transcending the cycle of life and death and celebrating the cycle of life and spirituality. The final teoballim symbolizes the cyclical birth of a new beginning, where an ideal ruler, leading an era, prays for a peaceful era for the community, clears the blessed ground, and so on. Conclusion: Understanding the social and cultural trends of the times embedded in the movements of Kang Sun-young's Taepyeongmu will serve as crucial data for the transmission and development of dance, and will also establish a theory of dance symbols.
