Abstract

This study aims at extracting features of dance structure by grasping main breathing patterns through the analysis of Episode Dosalpuri of the Taepyeongmu of Kang Sunyoung style and analyzing the dance structure according to breathing patterns. In the study I applied Lim Haksun’s `breathing notation’ to the research method and analyzed the dance structure using the methodology of dance structure analysis. Large and deep breathing accounts for the breathing structure and the rhythm starting with exhalation as the first beat is numerous. There appears two kinds of patterns, one of which is a regular and the other irregular. The structure of dance technique makes a dynamic harmony of tension and relaxation by fastening and unfastening and especially maximizes the effect of unfastening technique. In the structure of motion line the breathing line of ‘dot-line-circle’ is completed with motion, and the curved line and circular line become main in space. The structure of dancing motion indicates all of the Brush-shaped, Crane-shaped, and Bow-shaped patterns. Particularly, the brush-shaped pattern which is a motion of an quick ending and the bow-shaped pattern of a circular form happen most repetitively. I hope that this study will be helpful toward laying the foundation of getting scientific access to the text of a dance book in view of recording and preserving Taepyeongmu dancing motion.
