Abstract
This paper investigates how distinct features of international trade of Korea, such as trade structure, trade partners, the share of imported intermediate inputs, and FDI, affect the industrial structure defined as the share of manufacturing in production and employment. The empirical results show that the export share of manufacturing is positively related to the employment and production shares of manufacturing while the import share of intermediate inputs is negatively related to them. On the other hand, the high export share of ICT products increases the production share of manufacturing, but decreases the employment share of manufacturing. In addition, trade surplus with China increases the employment and production shares of manufacturing.
