Abstract
In this study, we have tried to estimate the degree of industrial specialization in APEC(13 countries) and to empirically investigate the relation between industrial specialization and trade volume through gravity model. As the results, we have found that industrial specialization has been strengthened between APEC’s member countries after 1989 and that the trade volume between countries with the higher degree industrial specialization becomes larger. Also, the effect of industrial specialization on the trade volume is bigger in trade of differentiated goods than homogeneous goods. It means that monopolistic competition model or ‘New Economic Geography’ based on economies of scale or goods differentiation can be useful to explain industrial specialization and trade volume in APEC.
