2005-2014년 HS 6단위 수준에서 한국 중소기업의 전 세계 국가로의 수출에 대한 패널데이터를 이용하여 무역비용이 품목별 국가별 중소기업의 총수출, 수출다양도와 수출집약도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 다자간 저항성(multilateral resistance)과 관찰할 수 없는 품목의 특성을 통제하기 위해 수입국 고정효과와 품목 고정효과를 포함하였다. 무역비용은 중소기업의 수출, 수출다양도 및 수출집약도에 모두 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였으며, 특히 수출다양도와 비교하여 수출집약도에 더 큰 부정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 무역비용이 수출집약도에 미치는 영향을 보면 타 기업과 비교하여 중소기업에 미치는 부정적 영향이 상대적으로 더 크게 나타났다. 아울러 개도국으로의 무역비용이 중소기업의 수출다양도와 수출집약도에 미치는 추가적인 영향을 보면, 수출다양도에 미치는 영향은 유의하지 않은 반면에 중소기업의 수출집약도를 추가적으로 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the impacts of trade costs on the exports, the intensive and extensive margins of exports of SMEs. To control the multilateral resistance and the unobservable product-specific characteristics, country and product fixed effects model are applied. Using the panel data on exports and the number of SMEs at the HS 6 digit level, I find that trade costs decrease the exports, the extensive and intensive margins of exports of SMEs. Furthermore, I find that trade costs have larger negative impacts on the intensive margins of exports relative to the extensive margins of exports. In addition, trade costs of developing countries lead to an additional decrease in the intensive margins of exports of SMEs.
