본 연구는 순투자금액을 이용하여 2012년부터 2019년까지 전 세계 국가에 대한 한국의 해외직접투자(Outward Foreign Direct Investment)를 투자목적별로 분해하고, 수출에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 기존의 연구가 산업 및 국가적 특성을 이용해 OFDI를 구분하는 것과 달리 본 연구는 각각의 투자목적에 따라 수출에 미치는 영향을 비교분석하였다. 분석결과 한국의 OFDI는 투자목적과 관계없이 개도국을 중심으로 수출과 보완관계에 있고, 선진국의 경우 자원추구형 OFDI와 대체관계에 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 한편 제조업을 기술집약도에 따라 구분한 추가분석에서는 중기술제조업에서 개도국은 자원추구형 OFDI의 영향이 수출에 가장 크게 작용하는 것으로 나타났고, 선진국은 시장접근형 OFDI가 수출을 증가시키는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 OFDI의 긍정적인 영향을 확대하기 위해서는 한국 중간재 활용을 적극적으로 장려하고, 국가별 특성에 맞춘 지원정책의 마련이 필요하다.
Abstract
This study decomposed Outward Foreign Direct Investment in Korea by investment purpose from 2012 to 2019 and analyzes its impact on exports. Whereas the existing studies classify OFDI into horizontal/vertical FDI using industrial and national characteristics, this study compared and analyzed the differences in the impact on exports according to investment purpose. As a result of the analysis, OFDI in Korea has a complementary relationship with export to developing countries. Also, the case of developed countries, the resource-seeking OFDI and exports are in a substitution relationship. On the other hand, the impact of resource-seeking OFDI on the medium technology manufacturing industry was the greatest on exports in developing countries, whereas in developed countries, market access OFDI increased exports. Therefore, in order to expand the positive impact of exports from OFDI, it is necessary to encourage the use of Korean intermediates for local production and prepare policy reflecting the characteristics of host countries.
