한국의 대중국 해외직접투자가 수출에 미치는 영향:제조업과 중간재를 중심으로

초록

2017년 사드 논란에도 불구하고 한국의 대중국 경제의존도는 더욱 높아지고 있다. 이는 글로벌 밸류체인의 확대에 따른 산업내 무역 증대 및 한국의 대중국 해외직접투자와 직접적으로 연관된다. 따라서, 본 논문은 글로벌 밸류체인의 관점에서 해외직접투자를 제조업과 비제조업으로 구분하는 동시에 수출 제품을 가공단계별로 분류해 해외직접투자가 수출에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 초점을 맞추었다. 또한, 시계열 데이터를 3개 구간으로 구분해 영향요인들의 동태적 변화를 분석하고 주요 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구 결과, 우선 한국의 대중국 해외직접투자의 약 80%를 차지하는 제조업 투자가 비제조업 투자 대비 수출에 보다 선명한 효과를 유발하고 있다. 둘째, 해외직접투자가 수출에 미치는 긍정적인 효과가 시간이 경과함에 따라 약화되고 있으며, 최근에는 오히려 수출에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 중국 실질GDP가 증가하면서 한국의 대중국 소비재 수출에 미치는 영향력이 확대되고 있다. 중국 중산층이 확대되면서 한국산 프리미엄 제품에 대한 수요 증가가 반영된 결과로 해석된다.

Abstract

Despite the THAAD controversy in 2017, South Korea’s economic dependence on China is growing even more. This is directly related to increased intra-industry trade and Korea’s outward direct investment(ODI) in China following the expansion of the global value chain(GVC). Therefore, this paper focused on analyzing the impact of ODI on exports by classifying export products into processing stages while dividing ODI into manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors from the perspective of GVC. In addition, the analysis was conducted by dividing the time series data into three sections to analyze the dynamic changes of the influencing factors and to derive the main implications. As a result, ODI in manufacturing sector, which accounts for about 80 percent of Korea’s ODI in China, is causing a more statistically significant effect compared to non-manufacturing investment. Second, the positive effect of ODI on exports has been weakening over time, and in recent years, it has been shown to have a negative impact on exports. Finally, as China’s real GDP increases, its influence on consumer goods exports from Korea to China is expanding. It is interpreted as a result of the expansion of China’s middle class, reflecting the growing demand for Korean premium products.
