Abstract
The Gilt-bronze Gwaneum and Jijang Bodhisattva Statues at Beopnimsa Temple owned by Haeinsa temple were created in 1351 and are the only gilt-bronze statues from the late 14th century with a known inscription. These statues are highly regarded in Goryeo sculpture history. The fact that statues were originally enshrined in the center of the Daejangjeon hall of Beopnimsa Temple was confirmed through records found in the Gwonseonmun inscription and the container relics (擧案: material relics inside the statue). The Gilt-bronze Avalokitesvara-Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statues exhibit iconographic features such as an elongated face and slender body, which show the characteristics of other 14th-century Buddhist statues found at Amitabha statue of Munsusa Temple in 1346 and Yaksa Buddha of Janggoksa Temple. The stylistic characteristics of the two gilt-bronze statues show slender, elongated forms and demonstrate the refined, graceful proportions typical of the elegant style seen in later 14th-century Buddhist sculptures. It is believed that these two gilt-bronze statues, created in 1451, are the only gilt-bronze statues from the late 14th century with a date inscription, and that they hold great significance as important examples of 14th-century Buddhist sculpture.
