본 연구는 1976～2000년 기간동안 세계 61개국의 산업별 쌍무무역 자료를 이용해 국가간 산업구조와 무역구조의 연관성을 비교우위론과 산업내무역이론의 측면에서 분석하고 있다. 분석결과 국가간 비교우위와 산업내무역의 변화는 국가간 산업구조의 차이에 의해 설명됨을 보여준다. 즉 산업구조의 차이가 큰 산업이나 국가간일수록 비교우위무역의 비중이 크고, 산업구조가 유사한 산업이나 국가간일수록 산업내무역의 비중이 커진다. 그리고 산업내무역은 국가간 경제규모 크기, 경제규모의 차이, 소득의 차이 그리고 무역장벽에 의해 영향을 받는다는 이론의 가설이 타당함을 보여준다. 대부분의 기존 연구는 국가의 요소부존도가 산업구조에 반영되고, 산업구조의 차이가 무역패턴의 차이를 만들어냄을 전제하여 요소부존도의 차이와 무역패턴의 관계를 분석하고 있다. 본 연구는 산업구조의 차이가 무역패턴의 차이를 만들어낸다는 기존 연구의 전제가 타당한지를 실증적으로 분석함으로써 기존 연구를 보완하고 있다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes correlation between production structures and trade patterns using bilateral trade data of 61 countries for the period 1976～2000. The results show that inter-industry trade and intra-industry trade are explained by differences of industry structures among countries. The shares of intra-industry trade are higher among countries with similar industry structures. Moreover, the shares of intra-industry trade are affected by size of economies, differences of income, and distance between two countries. Previous empirical studies tested trade theory by examining correlation between factor abundance and trade patterns, since they assume that factor abundances determine the industry structures, and then the differences of industry structures determine the trade patterns among countries. This paper complements previous studies by analyzing the relationships between industry structure and trade patterns empirically.
