Abstract

This study examines the current status of social integration in Gyeonggi-do and local immigrant policies in order to promote social integration of immigrants centered on local governments. As of 2022, Gyeonggi-do is home to 50.2% of the nation's registered foreigners and foreign national compatriots. Specifically, 29.4% of registered foreigners in Gyeonggi-do are Korean-Chinese, 14.2% are Chinese, and the largest proportion of foreigners in the province are in the age group of 30-34 years old. In the legal and institutional sector, seven ordinances have been enacted to support the human rights of foreign workers in agriculture and fisheries, foreign residents, and multicultural families, and the ordinance on foreign workers in agriculture and fisheries is considered to be leading compared to other regions. In the area of administration, the government has regularized training for relevant officials, and has established a separate bureau unit for immigrants to actively promote systematic policies. In the statistical field, the government operated various projects targeting immigrants. In conclusion, Gyeonggi-do conducts various projects related to foreign workers, foreign residents, and multicultural families, but it is difficult to say that there are enough specialized projects for foreign workers and compatriots, which are the main targets of Gyeonggi-do policies.
