Abstract

This study examined the status of integration foundation, integration promotion, and integration status related to immigrant social integration in Incheon Metropolitan City. In terms of population characteristics, the registered foreigners and foreign nationals in Incheon Metropolitan City generally increased from 2011 to 2023(excluding 2012, 2020, and 2021), and as of 2022, 48.8% of registered foreigners were Chinese of Korean descent or Chinese, and 50.8% were aged 25 to 44. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that there were some differences by region in the status of registered foreigners by residence qualification in basic local government in Incheon Metropolitan City. In particular, at the local government level, ordinances for supporting foreign residents, multicultural families, and foreign workers have been enacted, and immigrant support organizations, family centers for local governments, and foreign worker support centers are in operation, and multicultural and foreigner awareness improvement education for civil servants is regularized. Therefore, it can be evaluated that all areas of social integration policy are being actively implemented and managed. However, many policies and projects are centered on marriage immigrants and multicultural families, and most policy projects set output-oriented targets(number of implementations, number of participants, etc.), so future improvements are necessary.
