본 논문은 “클라우제비츠 사상의 현대적 함의: 「전쟁론」의 정신전력을 중심으로”를분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 클라우제비츠의 「전쟁론」의 저술 배경 및 파장, 클라우제비츠 「전쟁론」의 개요 및 정신전력 분석, 클라우제비츠의 「전쟁론」의 특징과 정신전력의 현대적 함의를 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 국민전쟁 시대의 군사사상은 클라우제비츠에서 시작하여 클라우제비츠로 끝난다고 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 불후의 명저 「전쟁론」 을 집필하여 폭넓게 영향을 미쳐왔다. 특히 그는 손무의 「손자병법」, 뒤 피크의 「전투연구」 와 함께 전쟁에서 정신전력의 중요성을 강조하였다. 전쟁론은 제1편 전쟁의 본질로부터 제8편 전쟁계획까지 총 8편, 128개 장절로 구성되어 있고 전쟁의 본질, 전쟁을구성하는 요소와 상호관계 등을 분석하고 있다. 클라우제비츠의 정신전력은 ①전·평시전력·전략의 핵심요소로서의 정신전력 중시, ②불확실성 극복을 위한 삼위일체(국민· 군대·정부)적 정신전력의 중시, ③물리력과 정신력의 ‘칼집과 칼날’의 비유 및 융합성중시, ④전쟁습관 즉 항시전장 자세의 중시 등으로 분석·요약해 볼 수 있다. 그리고클라우제비츠의 정신전력의 현대적 함의는 ①현대전에서도 강화되어야 할 정신전력, ② 불가분리의 유·무형전력관계, ③국민지지·신뢰받는 강군육성과업 등으로 요약해 볼수 있다. 요컨대 클라우제비츠는 정신전력을 포함한 유·무형전력은 ‘전략’에 기초할 때의의를 지니게 됨을 잘 가르쳐주고 있다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes “the modern implications of Clausewitz’s idea: focusing on the mental combat power of his 「On War(theory of war)」.” To this end, it is to examine the background and influence of Clausewitz’s book, the outline of Clausewitz’s book and the analysis of mental combat power, and the characteristics of Clausewitz’s book, and the modern implications of mental combat power. Military thought in the era of the National War began with Clausewitz and ended with Clausewitz, so it would not be an exaggeration to say that he wrote the immortal masterpiece 「On War」 and had a wide influence. In particular, he emphasized the importance of mental strength in war along with Sun Tzu’s 「The Art of War」 and Du Picqs 「Combat Study」. 「On War」 is composed of 128 chapters in 8 parts, from the essence of war in Part 1 to the War Plan in Part 8, and analyzes the nature of war, elements constituting war and their interrelationships. Clausewitz’s idea of mental warfare(spiritual combat power) ①emphasizes mental warfare as a core element of wartime and peacetime warfare and strategy, ② emphasizes trinity(people, military, and government) mental warfare to overcome uncertainty, ③‘sheath and blade’ of physical and mental strength, and emphasis on convergence and ④war habits, that is, emphasis on constant battlefield posture. And the modern implications of Clausewitz’s mental warfare(spiritual combat power) can be summarized as ①mental warfare that must be strengthened even in modern warfare, ②inseparable tangible and intangible warfare relations, and ③the task of fostering a strong military that is supported and trusted by the people. In short, Clausewitz teaches well that tangible and intangible power, including mental power, becomes meaningful when based on ‘strategy.’
