본 연구는 개혁주의 신학사상의 근간을 이루고 있는 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서, 그 중에서도 성경관을 중심으로 개혁주의 신조의 현대적 중요성과 의의를 밝히는데 주된 목적이 있다. 개혁주의를 표방하고 있는 한국장로교회는 신앙고백서, 그 중에서도 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서를 중심으로 세워진 교회이다. 그런 만큼 장로교회는 하나님 말씀에 대한 객관적이고 성경적인 신앙고백서를 작성하는 일에 많은 관심을 가졌으며 하나님 말씀으로 바르게 돌아가는 일에 중요한 이정표로서 사용하였던 것이다. 그러나 오늘날 한국 장로교회는 안타깝게도 이런 전통을 잃어가고 있다. 따라서 참된 장로교회의 회복을 바라는 마음으로 개혁된 장로교회에서 신앙고백서를 중요하게 취급하게 된 근거를 무엇보다 웨스터민스터 신앙고백서의 성경관을 중심으로 살펴보았고, 신앙고백서의 현대적 의미를 고찰함으로써 잃어버린 역사적 장로교회의 전통과 내용을 다시 한번 생각하는 기회를 가져 보았다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 ‘개혁주의에 있어서 신앙고백서의 중요성’을 드러내며 신앙고백서에 있어서 성경관이 차지하는 의미를 서론에서 드러내었다. 본 연구의 본론에 해당되는 장에서는 개혁주의 신조의 의의와 현실적 적용의 발판이 되는 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서의 성경관을‘권위성’과 ‘영감성’,‘무오성’, 마지막으로‘정경성과 해석’으로 구분하여 소개하였다. 아울러 본론에서는 개혁주의 성경관의 주요 특징인 성경의 권위, 영감, 무오성과 정경성 그리고 성경의 해석은 분리된 영역이 아니라 유기적 혹은 동심원적으로 연결되었음을 드러내 보았다. 왜냐하면 성경의 바른 이해는 그런 유기적 관계 속에서만 가능하기 때문이다. 무엇보다 본 연구를 통해서 하나님의 말씀과 그 말씀을 가장 잘 요약하고 있는 신조는 날마다 시대마다 새롭게 이해하고 해석하는 끊임없는 현실적 대화가 필요함을 역설하였다. 구약과 신약시대와 그 후 오늘에 이르기까지 역사적인 기독교의 진리 이해를 신앙고백과 함께 폭 넓게 대화하는 노력이 필요하다. 이를 통해 교회가 현사회의 급변하는 변화에 능동적으로 대처할 수 있으며, 사회를 선도해 나가는‘앞섬이’의 역할을 잘 감당할 수 있으리라 확신한다.
Abstract
This study has been mainly proposed to elucidate the importance and significance of Reformed Creeds focused on the Westminster Confession, which makes up the backbone of Reformed theology, especially on the view of Scripture. Presbyterian Churches of Korea in the manifestation of Reformed theology have been built on the confession of faith, especially on Westminster Confession. Therefore, the Presbyterian Churches have had a lot of attention to writing objective and biblical confession of faith. And they have used it as an important milestone to go back to the Word of God. And confessions of faith, which promulgated in the name of churches, became the standards of life for believers. In that sense, the Presbyterian Churches, which share the spirit of the Reformation, are lining up with propagation of confessions of faith. Thus the confessions of faith were valuable and precious for the historical orthodox Presbyterian Churches. Unfortunately, however, the Presbyterian Churches in Korea are losing this tradition more and more. So, this study examined the basis why Reformed confessions of faith were treated importantly in the Presbyterian Churches through the view of Scripture on Westminster Confession hoping to recover the Presbyterian Churches truly. And it also has been the opportunity to rethink lost history and contents in Presbyterian Churches by considering the modern meaning of the Confession of Faith. For this purpose, this study showed ‘the importance of confession of faith in Reformed tradition’ and the meaning of the view of Scripture in the confessions of faith in the Introduction. The body part consists of ‘authority of the Scripture’, ‘inspiration of the Scripture‘, ‘infallibility’, and ‘interpretation of Canon of the Scripture’ which the view of the Scripture in Westminster Confession of Faith is divided into. And it is shown in the body that these four main characteristics of the view of Scripture in Reformed theology are not separated but related organically and in concentric circle. The bible only can be understood in that organic context. Above all, this study put emphasis on the Creeds which summarize the Word of God and God’s word need realistic dialogue to understand and interpret constantly in every new era. We need to look the truth of historic Christianity in the Old and New Testament and until today with the lens of the confessions. So the churches can actively respond to changes in fast-paced society and, to be sure, be frontiers to lead society out well.
