본 논문은 칼빈에게 은혜가 무엇인지, 그 개념이 실제로 그의 저술에서 어떻게 사용되고 나타나는지를 보여주는 것을 목적으로 한다. 종교개혁은 오직 믿음뿐만 아니라 오직 은혜를 강조했다. 칼빈의 은혜 개념은 삼위일체 하나님의 구원 행위에 관한 것이다. 인간 편에서 성자에게서 출발하여 성부의 은혜에 이르며, 하나님 편에서 성부에게서 출발하여 성자를 통해 은혜가 주어진다. 성령의 은혜는 우리로 하여금 그리스도의 지체가 되어, 그리스도 아래 있게 하며, 그리스도를 소유하게 한다. 하나님이 은혜를 시작했다면 그 은혜를 완성한다. 인간 문화의 발전을 위한 은혜는 보편적으로 모든 사람에게 차별 없이 주어지지만, 구원하는 은혜는 택자들에게만 배타적으로 주어진다. 특별 은혜에 참여하는 자는 일반 은혜의 영역에서도 하나님의 영광을 위한 활동을 한다. 하나님의 구속 은혜는 주권적 은혜로 확장된다. 신,구약 구원의 길은 모두 은혜 언약에 근거한다. 언약의 실체인 교리, 믿음, 중보자, 하나님, 성령은 모두 동일하다. 실체는 같지만, 은혜를 전달하는 방식(이 땅의 혜택의 유무), 은혜의 분량(현현의 명확성의 차이), 은혜를 받는 대상(한 민족과 모든 민족)에 있어서 차이가 존재한다. 구원의 길에 있어서 은혜 언약으로 하나님과 결속된 사람은 언약적 책임을 가진다. 신자의 행위는 하나님과 인간의 의지적 협력이 아닌, 전적으로 하나님의 행위인 동시에 전적으로 믿는 자 자신의 행위이다. 은혜는 효과적이며 활동적이다. 칭의와 성화는 구별되지만 분리될 수 없는 이중 은혜이다. 은혜는 선물로 받는 것이며, 하나님께 돌려드릴 수 없다. 대신 하나님께 감사하며 이웃에게 선물로 돌려준다. 하나님이 받으신 것처럼 이웃을 받는다. 윤리는 은혜의 윤리이다. 자신 안에 어떤 선한 것이 있다면, 은혜의 활동이며 은혜의 열매이다. 하나님이 은혜 주시면서 의롭고 거룩하게 하시는 이유는 순전한 삶 가운데서 하나님과 이웃을 섬기기 위함이다.
Abstract
This article is a study of Calvin’s doctrine of grace. Grace is an act of God’s love for his children. The Reformation claimed sola fides and sola gratia. Calvin’s concept of Grace relates to the saving action of the Triune God. The grace of the Holy Spirit allows us to become members of Christ, to be under Christ, and to possess Christ. If God has started the work of grace, he will hold it with grace until the end. While the general grace for the development of human culture is universally given to all without distinction, the grace of salvation is given only to those who are elect. Those who participate in this special grace shall also serve for the glory of God in the realm of general grace. God’s redemptive grace extends to his sovereign grace. The New Testament and the Old Testament are the same in the substance of the covenant of grace. Doctrine, faith, mediator, God, holy Spirit are all the same. In the way of salvation, those who are bound with God through the covenant of grace have a covenantal responsibility. As double grace, justification and sanctification are distinct but inseparable. Ethics is the ethics of grace. If there is something good within oneself, it is an activity of grace and a its fruit.
