이 소논문은 칼빈의 구속경륜(oeconomia redemptionis)과 구원서정(ordo salutis)에 나타나는 통일성과 다양성 속에서 발견되는 유기적 연결성에 대한 연구이다. 유기적 연결성에 대한 탐구는 신학 내의 통일성이 어떻게 다양성 속에 반영되고 있는지를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 논증은 칼빈의 신학적 이해의 지평을 확장하는 데 기여하며, 그 결과 칼빈의 신학 방법이 단순한 사상적 체계 구축에 머무르지 않고, 삼위 하나님의 위격과 사역을 증명하는 데 초점되어 있다는 것을 증명한다. 우선, 칼빈은 구속경륜에서 하나님의 선택과 작정의 중요성을 강조한다. 이는 그의 저작 『기독교강요』의 구조, 특히 예정교리에 서 분명히 드러난다. 중요한 점은 예정교리가 단순히 선택과 유기를 구분하는데, 목적이 있는 것이 아니라는 것이다. 이미 스스 로 타락한 죄인들을 하나님의 주권적 은혜로 선택하여 구원하신 다는 개념이 그 본질이다. 따라서 강조점은 하나님의 주권적 선택에 있으며, 이는 하나님의 불변하는 속성, 곧 “선택의 불변성” 과 연결된다. 이 “선택의 불변성”은 구속경륜, 즉 삼위 하나님의 위격과 사역에 통일성의 원리로 작용한다. 칼빈은 구원서정을 성령 하나님의 구원적용 사역으로 이해하였다. 앞서 살핀 바와 같이, 구속경륜에서 “선택의 불변성”이 통일성의 원리로 작용하듯, 성령 하나님의 구원적용 사역에서도 동일하게 작용한다. 성령 하나님의 다양한 구원적용 사건들에는 언제나 “선택의 불변성”이 자리하고 있으며, 칼빈은 이 원리를 바탕으로 구원론 전반에 걸쳐 신학적 사고를 전개하였다. 이를 통해 칼빈이 다양한 신학적 표현 속에서도 일관된 신학적 통일성을 유지할 수 있었음을 확인할 수 있다. 특히 “선택의 불변성”은 인간에게 “믿음의 확실성”으로 나타나며, 믿음은 삼위 하나님의 “선택의 불변성”을 확증하는 역할을 한다. 결과적으로, 칼빈의 구속경륜과 구원서정에 나타나는 통일성과 다양성을 통해, 구원에 관한 모든 신학적 이해가 상호 유기적으로 연결되어 있음을 확인하게 된다. 칼빈의 구속경륜과 구원서정은 통일성을 기반으로 항상 유기적 연결성을 지닌다. 유기적 연결성은 매개체를 중심으로 한 유기적 관계성과 유기적 연속성 속에서 드러난다. 이로써, 삼위 하나님의 다양한 경륜 사역들과 성령 하나님의 다양한 구원적용 사건들은 언제나 통일성을 전제로 하여 상호 유기적 연결성이 있다는 것을 칼빈에게서 발견한다.
Abstract
This thesis is a study on the organic connectivity discovered within the unity and diversity that appear in Calvin’s oeconomia redemptionis (economy of redemption) and ordo salutis (the order of salvation). The exploration of organic connectivity aims to reveal how unity within theology is reflected amidst diversity. This argument contributes to expanding the horizon of Calvin’s theological understanding, and as a result, it is discovered that Calvin’s theological method does not remain at the level of constructing a mere system of thought, but is focused on testifying to the persons and works of the Triune God. First, Calvin emphasizes the importance of God’s election and predestination in the economy of redemption. This is clearly revealed in the structure of his work, the Institutes of the Christian Religion, especially in the doctrine of predestination. What is important is that the doctrine of election is not aimed merely at distinguishing between election and reprobation. Its essence lies in the concept that sinners, who have already fallen by themselves, are saved by God’s sovereign grace. Therefore, the emphasis lies in God’s sovereign election, which is connected to God’s immutable attribute-namely, the “immutability of election.” This “immutability of election” functions as a principle of unity in the economy of redemption, that is, in the persons and works of the Triune God. Calvin understood ordo salutis as the salvific application work of the Holy Spirit. As previously examined, just as the “immutability of election” functions as a principle of unity in the economy of redemption, it likewise functions in the salvific application work of the Holy Spirit. In the various events of salvation applied by the Holy Spirit, the “immutability of election” is always present, and Calvin developed his theological thought throughout his soteriology based on this principle. Through this, it can be confirmed that Calvin was able to maintain consistent theological unity even within the diversity of theological expressions. In particular, the “immutability of election” appears to humans as the “assurance of faith,” and faith plays the role of confirming the immutability of the election of the Triune God. As a result, through the unity and diversity found in Calvin’s oeconomia redemptionis and ordo salutis, it is confirmed that all theological understandings concerning salvation are organically connected. Calvin’s oeconomia redemptionis and ordo salutis always possess organic connectivity based on unity. This is revealed within the organic relationality and organic continuity centered on the mediating(medium) principle. In Calvin’s theology, the manifold redemptive works of the Triune God and the diverse salvific application events of the Holy Spirit always presuppose organic connectivity through unity.
