본 사례연구에서는 내러티브 치료에 참여한 20대 초반의 남자 대학 신입생이 호소하는 군입대 문제를 다루는 과정에서 그 경험의 의미에 대해 기술해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구 참여자인 민수는 내러티브 치료 과정에 참여하면서 현재 자신이 문제라고 생각하는 군입대에 대한 부담감을 점차 줄여갔으며 이와 관련지어서 자신의 정체감 형성의 경험을 보여주었다. 연구의 결과, 연구 참여자가 군대 입대 문제를 내러티브 치료를 통해 경험한 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘혼란스럽고 무거운 군입대라는 마음의 걸림돌’, 둘째, ‘연결점이 없을 것 같은 청춘의 2년여 간의 시간과 남들이 잘 이해하지 못할 것으로 보이는 스트레스의 무게감’, 셋째, ‘어린 시절의 탐색을 통해 전성기를 떠올림’, 넷째, ‘지금까지의 삶에서 가장 의미 있는 고비의 시간을 기억해 냄’, 다섯째, ‘대학생활과 군복무 기간, 그리고 이후의 삶을 이어주기’였다. 사례 연구를 통한 군대 입대 문제의 내러티브 치료 경험의 이해가 개별 한 남학생의 삶에 대한 이해를 넘어서서 한국 청년에 대한 이해로 연결되고 이에 대한 지원체제를 구축하는데 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The following paper presents a case study using narrative therapy for a male freshman with enrollment military service problem. ‘MinSoo’, a participant of this study, experienced at the narrative therapy and gradually reduced the burden of entering military services and then gradually he showed his experience of forming his identity. As a result of the study, the participant had the following experience. First, ‘confused and heavy mental obstacle about entering military services’, second, ‘two years of youth that seems to have no connection and the weight of stress that others do not understand well’, third, ‘recall the heyday of childhood exploration’, fourth, ‘remembering the most meaningful crisis in life’, fifth, ‘connecting university life, military service period, and later life’. I hope that the understanding of the experience of entering military services through narrative therapy can be used to build a support system for the understanding of Korean youth beyond the understanding of the life of individual male students.
